I remember driving to my grandma’s house, watching the rivulets of water form and trail down the windows. I would wander around her gardens for hours, swinging on the old porch glider and getting lost in the tiger lilies that were taller than I was. It was there where I had some of my first encounters with flowers (other than my “prize-winning” 4-H blooms that I haphazardly pulled out of my mom’s garden when I was 12 or so…).
Flowers are a curious thing to me. They grace our lives with beauty in so many circumstances - celebrations of milestones, comfort amidst grief, expressions of care and love, and in small bits of connection to nature and nostalgia on an everyday kitchen table.
Its because of those connections that I’ve grown to love flowers. I used to be strictly a vegetable grower - something utilitarian, with purpose! But man, there’s something about flowers that connects us - to each other, to the earth, and to our memories. So while flowers do seem so “temporary” and “frivolous,” there also is a depth to them that is surprising. Plus, prose aside, who doesn’t like to walk by something pretty on their table?
At Rivulet Flower Farm, we want to nurture and steward those connections. So Josh and I (Jessica) grow lovely and unique organically-grown flowers and foliage, and pass them on to people with the hope that they feel all of the love and care that went in growing them.
